"find" or "look for" problem in Contacts

When searching for all contact entries containing a specific text string,
"find" or "look for" does work in general - it finds the text if it is in the
name or other
fields, just doesn't find it if the text is in the Notes field.

Is there a filter (or other setting) which tells "find" where to look and
where not to look?
