Does not matter which Office program I use. When I serch for printer I get
the same message "The Directory Service is currently unavailable". What is

No sir, I am not having any problems with my network. The problem I am having
is: Whichever Office program I am in. When I got to print > Find printer I
get the following message "The Directory Service is currently unavailable".

If you go to Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes, Add a printer, network
Printer Find a printer, does that work?

Thanks Bob. . . I made a mistake on my end. I forgot to share the printer on
the other PC. I can now print from that printer. But. . . I am still having
an issue in the Office programs. I am using Office 2007. When I goto print
and then click find printer it gives me the same error. My printer I wanted
to print from is there. I am just aggervated because when you pay the money I
have for the software. I kinda excpect all the options to work. I just can't
figure out why I am getting that error. . .

The error says "The Directory Service is currently unavailable" SO,
let's try again.

If you go to Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes, Add a printer, network
Printer Find a printer, does that work?

Ok, that is the same "Directory Service" that office claims is
unavailable, so now the question becomes why isn't it being seen. Is
there a firewall installed on this particular PC? Or some "services"
option that needs to be set in Tools, Options? I don't have 2007, but
2003 does the same "Find Printer" routine and it works as designed.

I am using Windows Live One Care. I went thru all the options with office and
cannot find anything. I have also went thru One Care and all is well there
to. Weird cause everything else works. . .

I wouldn't give up on it, maybe other folks with 2007 will try it and
see if it is a common problem or not.

Bob I . . . . I apprecite your help with this. Hopefully someone will read
this and have a fix for it. Would of been nice just to go there and find the
printer versus the other route you suggested.

Thanks again!

The printer needs to be "installed" on the PC anyway. In all my years of
support I had never used the "Find Printer" button inside of the Office
Print dialog box. I simply set up printers for the user from the Printer
and Faxes section and then they are set to go. The problem with the NT
based operating systems is that the Default printer page size
limitations are "carried" over into the applications. So "installing" a
new printer with the application open, almost invariably requires that
we close and reopen the app anyway.

That is what I did. Funny you say that because I have never used the 'Find
Printer' button either. . . Not a big deal. Just wonder why it is not
working.

I have the same issue, Win XP, Office 2007(word) IBM InfoPrint 1352 Laser
printer

Will give it a go to install the printer Locally how ever at this stage it
is Shared on another pc via usb because of the distance from the Switch.

Thanks
