find/replace bug

If you use Find and replace and try to replace a character in the document
with this « word then replaces the character with "

Word 2003 allversions incl serv packs!

That's a bit of too-smart smart quotes you're encountering, I believe. If
you choose Tools - AutoCorrection Options - AutoFormat as You Type, and
remove the check next to Straight quotes with smart quotes, do you still get
that result?
