Find & Replace function

T

Trilby

I used the Find function in a document (also the Replace function);
when I finished with that document and opened a new blank document to
write a letter, I discovered that, when I tried to use the page-up and
page-down arrows, a screen came on telling me that Word could not find
the word I had been looking for--but I wasn't looking for anything in
my letter. I clicked to indicate that I did not want Word to continue
searching, and tried to cancel the thing. Also went back to the Find
dialog box and clicked on Cancel (in case I had forgotten to do that
when I'd been using it on the previous document).

However, I still am unable to use the page-up, page-down arrows--in any
document. This is the first time this has happened. I have not
changed any settings at any time, because there was no reason to do so.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Those double arrows are not really page up/page down arrows. They really
mean Browse Next and Browse Previous. The little dot in the middle lets you
set the Browse Object, so that you can use those double arrows to go to the
Next and Previous of any of 10 different categories. Click on the little
circle, you'll see.

The default setting for the Browse Object is Page--but whenever you do a
Find, the Browse Object automatically changes to Find so that the double
arrows become Find Next, Find Previous (this can be very handy).

You can click on the little circle and reset the Browse Object to Page,
after doing a Find.

Or, you can dig GoToNextPage and GoToPreviousPage out of the Tools |
Customize dialog (under Edit) and assign them a keyboard shortcut/icon to
use instead.

Hi Trilby,

Try testing your Word preferences first and your Normal template if that
doesn't work. Details here:

(If using Safari, hit Refresh once or twice; better yet, use another browser

Sorry, Trilby, I should have paid more attention. I didn't realize that you
were talking about the double arrows rather than the single arrows. See
Daiya's response on this.
