Find/Replace/Special-Button Items

Word 2001
OS 9.2.2

Hi

I experience "Find/Replace/Special/ marks and characters in the pop up menu
in word 2001 (paragraph mark, tab character...) to be awkward and time
consuming to get to. In a smaller word processing program I have called
"TexEdit", find/replace and a choice of characters are all in one dialogue
box.

Are there any shortcuts in word?

Thanks,

Rafael

All of those special characters can be typed directly, so one shortcut
is to use your brain and your fingers. In fact, recent biological
evidence shows that they were evolved for exactly this purpose! :) m.

Hi Matt

Now I see.

I too know what it's like to be highly evolved and how the occasionally
cranky day comes with the territory. While I see that typing two characters
clearly does the job better than the more cumbersome find/replace dialog,
the little TexEdit word processor which I often use has a method for this
function that remains superior. I had expected as much of Word and that's
what I was looking for when I posted my query.

Regards, Rafael

Hi Rafael:

Nice one :)

I'm afraid the Word Find/Replace dialog has been "added to" and "simplified"
so many times, it's now a horrid mess :)

I too abhor the thing. But save making your own dialog, there is no help in
sight... You can make your own dialog to do anything you like in Word,
including that, but it's a big job and not worth it for this case.

The reason there's no end in sight is that Microsoft is also avoiding the
effort, since they know we will get a slew of new things with the release of
Windows Longhorn. Search is a huge priority there, and we will
progressively inherit all the goodies from that effort.

Cheers
