Find what group distribution a contact is on

I have several group distribution lists.

Is there some way to go to an individual contact in the
address book and find out which group distribution lists
the contact is on?

The Outlook development team should consider overcoming this - I use DL's extensively and it is a real pain when people move within departments and you have to manually go through each list to find where to remove and where to add - it takes ages!!

Agreed. You can send Outlook feature requests to (e-mail address removed) with
"Outlook" in the subject and to (e-mail address removed)

I have a feeling the developers are trying to get us to use alternate
features such as Categories or separate Contact subfolders. DL's have never
worked well and seem to have undergone no development since they were
introduced in Outlook 2000.

Microsoft *has* addressed this by introducing query-based distribution lists
in Exchange 2003. In earlier versions, DLs can be managed with ADSI code;
see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=263520 for a sample.

In the Outlook client, DLs work so poorly that we MVPs generally recommend
not using them at all but instead using sorting and grouping to choose
related contacts on the fly.
