Hi, I am Bob Magnuson VP FFG Ltd and am new here. I am a mid-ACCESS user
looking for PC groups most committed to MS ACCESS, in the northeast MA or
southeast NH area and/or a consultant there.

I have a big ACCESS database, with 100 text and number fields, to download
into. I have 4 Internet databases I subscribe to, with 3 more coming, as
sources to download into MY database from. I need field mapping of my
database fields to be able to recieve Excel comma delimited and other
formatted data, to assure data goes to matching fields. My user name is Bxx
thanks Robert Magnuson

Bob,
I would beware of Steve/PC Datasheet. If you search for threads that he
participates in, you will find that he seems to feel that he has the right
to use these "free, public" news groups to blatantly advertise his services.

I have never noticed any others that have a similar lack of respect for the
generally accepted purpose and netiquette of these groups.

Consider either asking specific questions to get help here, search the news
groups for similar questions and look for legitimately good answers from
ethical posters, or find a public forum for posting job/contract notices.

I expect my posting will cause rebuttal/hate messages in this thread and I
apologize in advance for that.

Steve is the person who needs to apologize!

It is a good idea to warn new posters about Steve's ethics.

I find myself wondering about his /intelligence/... I know he's seen at
least one posting suggesting that he doesn't "get it", since he's
responded numerous times, but he still doesn't appear to get it. It's
kinda weird, especially since he actually gives helpful advice at times.
He acts like a high-schooler who may be a computer nerd, knows a fair
amount about Access, but can't figure out how to relate to human beings.
(And as if his parents don't give him much spending money but let him
play on the Internet.) I guess you just need to keep on the lookout and
continue to post your warnings.

Sorry steve, you are not a user group and you do not live near New
Hampshire.

Robert:
Your best solution is to post specific questions in these newsgroups and you
should obtain some excellent answers from some of the very best Access
experts available (PC D excluded).

That should be "apears" to giive helpful advice. There are a number of posts
where
he has given incorrect or misleading answers.

In a previous post he has mentioned that he spent twenty years as a
gas station attendant, so that shoots down the possibility that his
immaturity
is due to his age.

Heh... I became caught up in the tangents that your thread took; I'm not
sure that most of the postings had much to do with what you asked.

I can't help you with user-group stuff, but you can get advice on some
types of Access-related questions (FREE OF CHARGE, it'd be hard to beat
the price elsewhere) on this and related newsgroups. It's possible to
get support from BOTH a user group AND the Usenet.

Concerning your database, when you mentioned your 100 text and number
fields, I began wondering just how many Tables you use to store those.
If they're all in one Table, it sounds like kind of a bear to maintain.
(Most of my Tables range from about 2 to 25 fields each, with
occasional exceptions.)

My guess is that you would prefer to automate, to the extent reasonably
possible, the process of importing the Excel or text-file data, while
taking care to properly identify all of them, n'est-ce pas?

If you would like advice on organizing your database (and my guess is
that you won't necessarily have to maintain a copy of every last Excel
column in your version to do what you need to do), you might post a copy
of sample (sanitized) data on this newsgroup, along with a concise
description of your Tables (such as what each field means, what its data
type is [integer, text, date, money], and which Excel column you import
into it). This type of problem comes up frequently, and many of the
regulars here can give you good advice on organizing your stuff so that
you can avoid loads of unnecessary work. (But some initial work is
needed to organize things so that you can avoid later headaches.)

Good luck.
