finding an unlinked object

Ken

I trying to learn Project, I tried to attached an arrow
to a task bar. Unkonwingly I did not enter an ID before
saving. The arrow disappeared. Until I printed out the
schedule. I now see it in Print Preview and I'm trying
to find it to delete it. But it's not in my normal
view. I'm assuming it's because the ID is actually 0.
How can I find this arrow to delete it? I'm using the
rollup formating marcro.

It sounds like you may have accidently created a task with a blank name.
Expand all your summaries and look down the list for it, select the whole
line and delete it.

Just guessing there because I'm confused what you mean by "attached an
arrow." Do you mean you drew an arrow with the drawing tools or that you
tried to create a dependency link arrow between two tasks? What do you mean
by "enter an ID before saving?" The task ID numbers are generated
automatically by Project and are not something entered by the user.

I would strongly suggest you enroll in a formal training class rather than
simply trying to learn Project on your own. Unlike most software, there are
many sublties to using Project correctly that are not obvious when learning
by experimenting. Your investment in a 2 or 3 day training session will
definitely be time well spent in the long run

What I did was draw an arrow using the drawing tool bar.
I wanted to attach it to a task bar using format drawing
then Size & Position tab. I did not realize one needed
to enter a value under Attach to task in the ID box
before I saved it. The arrow then disappeared. I now
know the ID value is the row number of the task. How do
I find the arrow so I can delete it? I"m assuming
because I didn't enter an ID (row number), the arrow is
actually in ID (row) 0. Which doesn't exist. Yet the
arrow appears in print preview and when I print.

I don't have a task with a blank name.

I do want to take trainign some day but I can't right
because I'm so busy with work.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

Hi Ken,

Row 0 is the Project summary - tools/options.../View tab and at the bottom
right select the Project summary.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

I guess I was wrong. The hidden arrows are not on the 0
Row. Where could they have gone that I can't find them?

Hi Ken,

I've no idea! Try resetting the Gantt Chart view EXACTLY the same as when
you created the arrows - same timescale, same date, same tasks.
