Finding Normal.dot

I am using a different computer at my new office and trying to figure out
why I can't see normal.dot in Word 2002. I Set Folder Options to display
all files, including hidden and system files, and I confirmed that I am
looking in the default folder (A test template I made up is on view in that
folder) but I can't see it. My laptop sitting next to it running Word 2003
shows normal.dot exactly where it ought to be--right smack in with my other
templates. Is there any reason not to be able to see normal.dot? thanks!

Given the settings you have described, it should not be just invisible.

Also, Word 2002 will run properly even if Normal.dot was accidentally moved
to another location or even deleted. However, upon closing Word the first
time after that, it will generate a new one in the default templates folder.

Does it show up in a search of the hard drive?

Cheers

It seems you are looking in the wrong 'default' folder. The correct one is
that listed at tools > options > file locations > user templates.
