finding/sorting with part of a field

Hello. I am using Access 2000. I have a single text field
with a client number. The client number has 3 parts
separated with a dash. Example: 12345-123-12345678 I
need for this to remain a single field.

I need to sort by the middle digits and by the last set of
digits. Is this possible within Access? I know I can take
it to Excel and make it happen. I would rather remain in
Access.

Thanks for the help.
