Finding

When I begin a new email message and enter a name in the "To:" field,
it autocompletes the name but is not underlined. When I click on
Check Names I get a message saying Outlook does recognize the the
name. When I click on Show More Names and my Address book opens with
the name that I wanted highlighted. I click on Ok and and the name
becomes underlined and I can send my email.

Before it would just underline the name automatically without having
to go to my Address Book. My Contacts folders has the property "Show
folder as an email Address Book" checked.

Why is Outlook able to find a name automatically (since it
autocompletes it), but not be able to associate it automatically to an
email address?

One other problem is that for one contact Steve I had the Business Fax
field and the Email Address field entered. I've since cleared the
Business Fax field, but now when I start type Stev it autocompletes to
Steve (Business Fax). I want it to pick the email address, not the no
longer existing Business Fax. Does Outlook keep a record of
previously used contact when it autocompletes and uses them even
though those contacts no longer exist? If so, is there a way to clear
the list? Maybe this problem is related to my first one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post your Outlook version. Clarify whether you are using autocompletion or
autoresolution. If you don't know the difference, post the steps you are
using in sufficient detail so that we can figure it out.

I am using Outlook 2002 which does have an autoresolution feature. By
autocomplete I mean that if I type 'J'. it automatically completes the
name with "John Smith" since I onlly have one entry in Contacts that
starts with 'J'.

Not consistent with reality.
Autocomplete in Outlook 2002 did not kick in until 3 letters are typed. Only
Outlook 2003 will offer suggestions after only 1 letter.
Autocomplete does not use your Contacts list.
Provide enough detail in the actual steps you are using so that we can
reconcile these discrepancies.

I was only using "J" as a simple example. Your postings so far have
been anything but valuable. I suggest you consider changing your
nickname.

Oh for heavens sake. How do you expect me to post an accurate answer when
you post no accurate information? Just answer my questions so I can answer
yours.
List the steps you are using to send the messages and the behavior you are
getting clearly and accurately so we can figure out what's wrong. You simply
have not provided enough information to permit an answer. It is impossible
to discern whether you are using autocompletion or autoresolution when you
encounter your problem.
