Finish Date

Is there some sort of a setting to change the finish date? All of my tasks
turn up as a dark blue color when they have a duration on them. But on some
of the groups I have, I will link things together and whatever is the
furthest out, as in the end date...whatever is linked to that taks it turns a
lighter speckeled blue color. I think i have figured out that it has
something to do with it being critical, but I can't figure out why it is
turning up as critical. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!

I am assuming you are talking about the color of the Gantt Bars themselves.
One of the default formats does show progress as dark blue. The lighter blue
is for tasks that do not have progress (%Complete) to get them along that far.

You can check the formating for the bars: Format/Bar Styles.. In that
window you can also check to see how critical tasks are displayed (perhaps a
light/dark red?)

Here is some additional information that may be helpful.
Insert %Complete Column, and turn on the Tracking Toolbar
(View/Toolbars/Tracking...)

Change the status date: Project/Project Information and set the status date.

Now select a task (or group of task) and adjust their performance by making
selections on the Tracking Toolbar. Keep in mind anything to the left of the
status date should be complete, anything to the right of the status date is
remaining.

Key your actual start and finish dates by selecting the update tasks icon on
the tracking toolbar. That window also gives you the opportunity to extend
duration by increasing the remaining duration value.

Remember, nobody finished or started a task "tomorrow" so use those "Actual"
dates to your advantage.

If you want to display a status date on your schedule, Format/Gridlines....
scroll down on the "Line to change" box and select Status Date, give it a
Type and a color.

I tried all of those things and nothing changed it. I already had the
%complete on my project and so far nothing is complete because I am just
setting it up. I do not understand why there is only one group of tasks that
are critical and changing the actual gantt bars a different color, as far as
I can see they are exactly the same as the rest of the tasks. The only
difference is that they are what is setting the finish date.

Hi sablair,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The red tasks are critical tasks as defined by the Critical Path Method on
which Project is based. You might like to have a look at my series on
Microsoft Project in the TechTrax ezine, particularly #1 and my reference to
Critical Path Analysis, at this site: http://tinyurl.com/2xbhc or this:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

My problem is that these things are showing up as critical and I do not
understand why they would be. My thing is set on tasks are critical if less
that or equal to 0.
