finish-to-finish, but don't need same end date, how?

Mikkel

Hi,

I'm working on a project where I have several tasks where the successor (B)
can't finish until the predecessor (A) finishes. That I thought was a
finish-to-finish dependency. But Project (2007) now forces the B to finish
the same time as the A! I only need A to be finished BEFORE B finishes, not
necessarily the same time.

How do I do this?

Thanks,
Mikkel

Mikkel,

That's the way MS Project works. All its links are implied "on the
earliest".
So, in a FF link, the successor cannot finish until its predecessor itself
finishes. But it could finish later if it had a more restrictive constraint.
Hope this helps,
Gérard Ducouret

Hallo Mikkel,

1: Select the successor task
2. Menu Project-Task Information-Tab Predecessors-In column Lag enter the
number of days you want the successor finish to be delayed

Would it work for you to have a milestone which is dependent FS on both A and
B ?

Try my blog, white paper on "Importance of Finish to Start Successors." I

B will be scheduled to finish as A finishes UNLESS some other condition
causes it to finish later.
