Finish Variance

I am trying to determine if the project ended on time, ahead of schedule, or
behind schedule using the Finish Variance column. My understanding is that
Finish Variance is calculated the following way: Finish Variance = Finish -
Baseline Finish.

What if you baseline your project again to baseline 1? How come it doesn't
then calculate the following way: Finish Variance = Finish - Baseline1 Finish.

Am I understanding this correct and if so is there a better way to see my
schedule variance?

Thanks

I would recommend that you baseline/rebaseline your project so that the
current baseline for the project is always stored in the Baseline set of
fields. When you baseline the project initially, simply click Tools -
Tracking - Save Baseline and then click OK. The next time you need to
rebaseline your project, do the following:

1. Click Tools - Tracking - Save Baseline
2. Select the "Save interim plan" option
3. Select Baseline from the Copy pick list
4. Select Baseline1 from the Into pick list
5. Select the Entire project option and then click OK
6. Click Tools - Tracking - Save Baseline
7. Select the Save Baseline option, the Baseline set of fields, and click
OK
8. Click Yes when prompted

Steps #1-5 in above procedure will copy your current baseline values from
the Baseline set of fields into the Baseline1 set of fields. Steps #6-8
will save your current baseline in the original Baseline set of fields so
that you can use the default Finish Variance field. If you rebaseline a
second time, copy your Baseline fields into the Baseline2 fields. Hope this
helps.

That is a lot of work but we will give it a try.

I appreciate your response and help.
