First impression of Office 2008

P

Phillip Jones

Well I just receive in my hot big hands my copy of Office 2008.

Guess what word reminds me of?

MacWrite Pro! It took me a while to install. on my PB17 Lap top.

Now I need to figure out how to install on the FireWire Hard Drive
attached to my G4-500 Tower. It uses X.4.11 I'm hoping I don't have to
re register and be issued another PID number.

I've go a feeling I'll be be still using Office 2004 more often.

Hi Phillip:

If you have a "full" licence, you can install on one Laptop and one Desktop
without needing another licence.

However, you will need to remember to log off, because you cannot run them
at the same time.

Cheers

Yes I do have a full license I supposed I bought the update package.

I did install on my G4-500 Tower by way of the attached FireWire Hard Drive.

Yes it found my office2004 install on my Main hard drive.
and Office2001 on the Hard drive I have OS9 installed on.

Unfortunately it did issue another PID number.

I also noticed that on the PowerBook in which OSX.4.11 is installed when
I clicked on Save As there was absolutely no trace of a save setting for
..doc only docx and the items associated with it.

However; on my FireWire Drive when clicking on Save AS besides the
setting for docx and its associated files .doc and its associated file
were visible as well.

I am aware of running on a network. which at home I only run one at the
time.

Hi Phillip:

Yes, of course it issued a new PID: the PID is specific to the machine the
product is installed on. It's combination of the Product Key, the CPU
serial number, the hard disk serial number, and the network card MAC
Address.

If Save As does not show you "Word 97 - 2004 Document (.doc)" then you have
not scrolled the list :) It's under "Common Formats".

Cheers

I registered once using the PID given on the PowerBook.

Do I have to register again? Remember Both the Desktop and the Laptop
Belong to me. And I don't use both at the same time.

I tried out on two Doc Files associated with my Association.

One Showed no tabs in the Ruler at top of Screen, only when got to a
paragraph that I used tabs in.

However the Other showed tab marks going various directions every 1/4 to
1/8 inch.

The original Document in Doc format didn't show all these tab Markers.

I didn't remove the tab Markers but I played around with some editing.
They brought back a feature I have been missing since Word95.

They actual have shown the item as Format Painter. In Word95 it was
called called something else. But when you clicked on the show
invisibles marker in the menu Ribbon at the beginning of each paragraph
was a little black box. you double clicked on that ant click on the next
one and that paragraph would taken one the same format as the one you
double-clicked on. I was gone and never to be found in Office 2001, 2004.

The difference now is you select the paragraph, double click on the
format Painter, then click on the first letter of the next paragraph.

I actually used it to decrease the space between Paragraphs, by clicking
a Paragraph mark, changing the font size. double Clicking on format
Painter then selecting other paragraph marks by command clicking on the
ones I wanted to change. the clicking on the painter symbol again.

Still reminds of MacWrite Pro though. ;-)

Hi Phillip:

No, you only need to register once. Or not at all, if you don't want to get
the marketing emails.

Cheers
