First line repeats when printed

I'm posting this message in both the Lexmark and Microsoft Word forums, since
I'm not sure where the source of the problem is. Every two months I prepare a
newsletter, which has two columns on Page 1 and two calendars on Page 2. I
recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2007, and am working in
compatibility mode, with documents in the name.doc format. I am using WinXP
and a Lexmark 2580.

The problem is that Page 1 looks perfect on the screen, but when I print it,
the first line of the second column is repeated. I tried shuffling the
content, but no matter what, I get two copies of the first line when it is
printed, even though only one copy shows on the screen.

So I updated the printer software, which had no effect. Then I used the
Office disk to repair the installation, which still didnt work. Any
suggestions?

When you say 'perfect on screen' is that in Print Preview?

Yes, in Print Layout, Full Screen Reading, all zoom levels, and when viewed
as a single page or two pages side-by-side

Yes. (See my earlier post).

I did some further experimentation to see what conditions triggered this. It
seems to happen only when the first column is terminated by a manual column
break AND the next paragraph consists of a single line (i.e. a heading).
Neither of these conditions alone causes it; it requires both.

Is it consistent if you use a different printer driver as default? Is it
possible you could email me a copy showing the bug please?

Note that Print Preview is not the same thing as Print Layout view.

Yes, I realize that now. The reason I didn't mention it before is that I
couldn't find it, since the Word 2007 menus are completely different from
Word XP's. But now I did find it, and the extra line doesn't show up there.
However, without my having done anything, the problem seems to have solved
itself; now I can't get the printed line to repeat no matter what I do. Which
is exactly what I want. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Terry, but the problem seems to have solved itself without my having
done anything. Now I can't get the printed line to repeat no matter what I do
– which is, of course, what I wanted in the first place. Thanks for your help.
