I just got the first 2008 Update and it updates the Microsoft
AutoUpdate.app from 1.2 to 12.1

Looks like they are getting ready for the real update soon. I have
no idea what was change in the Microsoft AutoUpdate.app but
I suggest you get it to be ready.

I believe you're mistaken:) No Office 2008 updates have been released as
yet [AFAIK] and aren't planned to be released until mid March. At least it
seems rather odd that there is no mention of same on a) Mactopia, b)
MacMojo, or c) Microsoft.com in general.

Based on our earlier conversation I believe what you've witnessed is that
you launched the version of AutoUpdate, itself, that came with Office 2004
(v1.2.2) and *it* got updated to v2.x, perhaps?

Bob,

The Office 2008 installed version 2.1.0 and when I did a check via the
Entourage Help menu this morning, the updater said there was an update
an installed Microsoft AutoUpdate.app version 2.1.1.

To double check ..... I just went back using the Time Machine to confirm
Microsoft AutoUpdate.app version 2.1.0 was used on Wednesday 28-Feb and
ii is now version 2.1.1.

I was not messing with the 2004 version of the AutoUpdate. I got he
update from the Entourage 12.0 Help menu that launched the Microsoft
AutoUpdate and found the update.

Understood, but I was just [admittedly] speculating - especially in regard
to actual version numbers.

The point being made, however, is that it wasn't an *Office* update. See my
reply to your other post.

I had the original 2.0.0 AutoUpdate, not 2.1.0. It, too, was updated to 2.1.1. I never saw 2.1.0 even though I have it set to check automatically. I bought Office 2008 from Amazon on release date. That may be the reason I had the older version because Amazon gets things early.

The version depended on what was printed to CD. This is the first public
update.
