I just got the first 2008 Update and it updates the Microsoft
AutoUpdate.app from 2.1 to 2.1.1 (corrected)

Looks like they are getting ready for the real update soon. I have
no idea what was change in the Microsoft AutoUpdate.app but
I suggest you get it to be ready.

After installing Microsoft AutoUpdate.app version 2.1.1, i opened it
and clicked on the "View Installed Updates" and there was nothing
listed. I wonder if this is a bug in the AutoUpdate? Hopefully. it
will document the soon to be released updates.

This update ONLY installed AutoUpdate 2.1.1. The are no updates to Office
proper as of yet. Mactopia is saying that the Office update will come on
March 11.

It came in via the AutoUpdate application so as far as I am concerned it
is a Microsoft Office 2008 update. MS would not go to the trouble to
release an update from 2.1 to 2.1.1 if it was not necessary.

The fact that it came via AutoUpdate no more makes it an update to Office
than an update to iTunes via Apple's Software Update is an update to OS X.
AutoUpdate is a separate utility application that merely reaches out to see
if there are available updates to *any* MS software you have installed.
MS would not go to the trouble to
release an update from 2.1 to 2.1.1 if it was not necessary.

That's true - but that doesn't make an update to *it* an update to the
Office Suite.

Each Microsoft application requires the correct version of Microsoft
AutoUpdate to update it.

Office 2008 will require MAU 2.1.1 to put in future updates.

Microsoft has updated your AutoUpdate so that you will get the updates for
Office 2008 when they are released. If you had not done this update, you
would not get any updates for Office 2008.

There are no updates for the Office 2008 applications ready yet. They are
all still in Testing.

But everyone should ensure that they have put in the MAU update that has
just come out, so that as soon as there are updates, you will get them!

Hope this helps

John,

Yes it helps. Since the MAU update from 2.1.0 to 2.1.1 is required, I
wondered why it does not show up in the MAU log of View Installed
Updates. Hopefully, other updates will be logged.

Because it's not considered an Office application. Confusing isn't it?

I guess because it does not show updates to itself :) It is showing you
the "Updates installed to Microsoft Office" and since it is not considered
to be part of Microsoft Office, it does not show updates to itself!
