First page number 0 (zero)

I am using Office XP and on a few of my documents the
first page number keeps appearing as 0 (zero), when I
would very much like it to be page 1!!
I have tried every possible way of fiddling about with
the field settings, installed all critical updates for
and searched the support site but cannot find a way of
sorting this out.
Any suggestions?
