First time use msg box keeps appearing

I recently had to re-install Office 2000 after a hard disk
crash. Now everytime I open a Word or Excel document from
a document icon I get a message box saying 'Microsoft
Office SR-1 2000 Professional' 'Preparing to Install'.
Then a couple of progress bars flash and the application
loads without the document. I can then open the document
from the menu bar or the folder icon.

Also, the Word or Excel documents that I worked previously
on do not appear under 'Start' 'Documents' button.

You don't say what OS you are using. Assuming W2k or WinXP, you need to
open Word and Excel once using an account having Administrator
privilege.

Thanks for the response. I am using Win 98 SE. Our IT guy
did the install so I am not sure about permissions. I
assume that since he couldn't repair the system any
further permissions may not be the issue.
