First-use Wizard crashed all applications in Office XP

Can any one explain this? Everytime I try to start an
application, the wizard tries to run and then craches with
an appology from Microsoft. It then asks me to send the
error report (which includes 31 module references and about
25 pages of numbers).

Is there a way to start an application a keep the wizard
from running?
