"Fit text" feature trouble

M

meb

One day while customizing, I noticed the "Fit Text"
feature and added it to my toolbar.

It works fine on my laptop, but for some reason it won't
work on my desktop, though they're both Office XP. The
Fit Text button on my desktop is greyed out, while it's
in full color on the laptop.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Meb,

Where did you pick up this "Fit text" feature to put it in
the toolbar?

If you look in START/Programs in the section for Microsoft
Office you should find an entry for "Tools", and under
there for languages. Compare these for the two machines.
Does the laptop perhaps have any Asian language support
enabled?

You're a genius! It's all coming back to me now... A
friend asked to borrow my laptop, and I installed Korean
language support for his fiancee who didn't speak any
English. That's where it must have come from. So when I
added "fit text" to my desktop, I had no Asian languages
enabled. Now that I have, the feature is working fine.

It's such a powerful formatting tool that it's a shame
you only get it when you enable Asian languages. Also,
in print layout view, you now get grey placeholders in
the four corners of the page. I like that. Too bad you
don't get it with western languages.

Thank you!

<G>You're one of the first people in these groups I've
encountered who actually likes them; most people come here
wanting to know how to get rid of them!

For systems without Asian support, you can activate "Text
boundaries" in Tools/Options/View. It's not quite the same,
but...

I have "Text boundaries" displayed by default, but didn't Meb say he didn't
want the box around the margins, just the "crop marks"?
