Fitting chart border to chart diagram

I can't figure out how to resize the chart border without resizing the diagram. I found out within the "Help" part of the program, but when I do what it says, none of the options to click on (Organization chart toolbar: Layout--Fit Diagram to Contents) are active. I have tried clicking on different areas of the chart as well as off the chart. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there another way to do it?

Thanks for any help I can get.

Hi

I assume that you are trying to resize the chart itself (rather than the
border thickness).

1. Click on Chart (Chart Area) and drag the handles to resize as required.
The graph will automatically resize inside the chart area.
2. Click on the graph (Plot Area) and resize using its handles. I assume
that you would want to make it smaller. The Chart Area won't move.

This would create more whitespace between the plot area border and the chart
area border.

phil,
Sorry, but I think you misunderstood my problem. I want to resize the area without affecting the size of the diagram size/shape. What I want to do is similar to cropping a picture; I want to get rid of all the empty areas around the diagram.

Follow Phil's approach in reverse: shrink the overall chart object, then
expand the plot area within it.
