By golly gee it really works. Here is how.
Open Start
-Run
Type in run "Regedit" without the quotes
-Edit type in "Patches" without the quotes
When the first Patches shows up right click on it and
-rename "patchesold"
-F3 key finds the next one. Keep doing this until all are
renamed.
ONLY DO KEYS (left side of screen) that say PATCHES DO
NOT DO APPPATCHES.
Close regedit
Go to Office update and by golly it updates.

About time.

Hi Tom,

Welllll, unfortunately, while that may solve the particular patch issue for a visit to http://officeupdate.com using that particular
'broadbrush' technique, to rename the keys, may end up causing additional headaches in the future.

It's possible for that MS Installer related registry key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Patches
to contain data for other .MSP patch files that have been applied by Windows and 3rd party suppliers, not just MS Office. It could
break the links from the apps to the registry to the .MSP files for updates cached (stored)
in the \Windows\Installer folder

Hello Tom L,
Quick question. Do you think the solution posted for
Office 2003 also applies to Office XP and the problem
some of us have encountered when trying to install Office
XP SP3? Cheers

Dario
