Fix for the everlasting Spaces issues

Processor: Intel

Is there ANY news or updates on fixing Office 2008 to work with Spaces. All the threads related to Spaces are "closed" and no feedback is forthcoming?

This is getting REALLY annoying, and 6 months should have been more than enough to fix any issues.

Or... if there are no plans to ever fix it, tell us that so we can start transitioning our work to other applications that play nice.

Thanks,

Steve

It has been identified as a bug in the System if I'm not mistaking.
Don;t expect tog get official news here since this is only a
peer-support group and MS doesn't post here.

Hi Steve -

Apparently you've done quite a bit of review on this so I'm not sure how you
missed the answer to your main question: There is no reason to expect that
Office 2008 will ever be rewritten to run in Spaces - it isn't just a matter
of an update.

It's also unlikely that Apple will patch 10.5 to the windowing specs it was
intended to offer [which, according what I have been led to believe, is where
the problem lies]. How reliable that "opinion" might be is open to debate.

My best guess is that there will be no harmony prior to the next version
release of Office [14] unless Snow Leopard is released first & bridges the
gap. Please bear in mind, however, you're asking in a user-to-user newsgroup
where nobody has any more hard facts to offer than you do. Even *if* there
are any who might know they are not at liberty to disclose information of
that nature.

Bob,

Thanks for the politely worded response. I have my SnowLeopard Customer Seeding DVD sitting here, waiting for me to decide if I want to just bite the bullet and install it. I'm not sure I want to risk my primary notebook on this, so I'm also looking for an alternative solution (imaging my machine, doing the test, and restoring the image). It's all a matter of timing (and spare time).

If I do find time to do this, count on an update here (either positive or negative). I believe that I can post an "the problem is solved" or "the problem remains", even under the terms of the seeding program.

Again, thanks for the nice response instead of using a flame-thrower like some people are inclined to do. I, for one, appreciate it.

You can create a sandbox on a separate partition/hard drive through
SuperDuper! If you have this application.

I suspect that Apple has a fairly strict NDA preventing you from saying
anything about a pre-released software unfortunately :-\

Hi,
I am not sure but if by any chance you are talking about the office toolbox getting sent into different spaces when using Spaces on Leopard, I would recommend just closing the toolbox and opening it again (from the list of buttons on Toolbar).
I agree that this issue is really annoying and by all means I know it's not a fix but it's the best way I could think of bringing functionality back to office without having to restart the application.
Let me know if anyone has a better method.
Thanks

Let me know if anyone has a better method.

Turn off spaces and hold down the Command & Option keys when selecting an
application in the Dock. This hides all other windows.
