Fix missing proplus.msi with upgrade

J

jake

A few years ago my company purchased a couple of computers that had microsoft
office professional with frontpage (might have been a pirated version, I was
not with the company at the time). We were not given a disc and have no way
of contacting the person we bought the computers from. None of the computers
can recieve office updates now due to a missing proplus.msi file. I tried
downloading the fullfile updates to no avail. If i purchase the Office 2003
small business upgrade, will it correct the problem? Would there be any
advantage in buying the complete version rather than the upgrade?

Thanks.

Hi, Jake,

Is it Office 2000 that's installed on those computers?

The upgrade might be okay...except that to uninstall Office 2000 the natural
way, you still need CDs. And...if you ever format and re-install those
systems, you won't have any proof that the upgrade is valid, since you don't
have the original media.

I think I'd get the full version of Office 2003, and hang onto those CDs.
If you can't uninstall Office 2000, you can use the manual steps here:

How to remove the Office 2000 CD1:

How to remove Office 2000 CD2 (if necessary):

Then you might need / want to run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to
remove references to it in the registry to the installation.
