fix nk2 or is it a corrupt mail profile?

Everytime i restart Outlook the nk2 file seems to revert to an older version.
I finally deleted my nk2 in hopes i could just start rebuilding but now it
reverts to a blank version (it doesn't have any email addresses saved).

On one of the posts it said what i'm experiencing is a sign of a corrupt
mail profile. That seems pretty hopeless (from what i read) but i'm posting
to here to ask if that's really correct?

do i have to create a new profile? or is there any other way?

if i have to create a new profile - is it a user profile on my OS? or just a
new email account?

Close outlook. Check tasks manager, processes tab a min or so later - is
Outlook.exe listed? if not, the profile is corrupt and you need to make a
new one. if it is running, figure out why and you may fix the nk2 problem.

you're right - outlook is still running. i'm trying various things from the
link you gave to fix it.

not sure if this will give you anything to go on but when i close outlook
the Reminder dialog stays open.

not sure if that indicates a specific corrupt file (like the .srs) or some
other type of file.

its usually addins that cause it - start with your addins list and disable
all to see if it works correctly. or list them here and we can tell you
which is the likely culprit

Were you able to make any headway with this issue? I'm experiencing the
same issue here. I have two "more senior" users that just absolutely
refuse to use their contacts. They keep looking the NK2 file, which
rebuilds, but of course when this happens, it is always a catastrophe
because the e-mail address they were responding to was in the type ahead
and that is the only place it is.

I will attempt what Diane stated in the previous posts and report. I
was just hoping to see if you were able to have any success.

Creating a new profile is the only way to restore the connection. Why don't
you back up this file if your users need it?

I've tried that. If I build a new profile, I don't have anymore
problems for 1-2 months, then I've had 2 this week. I'm also backing up
and I've already restored the file this morning. I'm going to
troubleshoot this further to find a more permanent fix.

I will report my findings, but I suspect I'm having the same issue that
Diane had mentioned in the previous posts where Outlook is not closing
out. I will look a little further and find out.

Autocompletion has always been a very fragile feature and apparently always
will be. Failure of Outlook to close cleanly is only one of many things that
cause Outlook to lose its connection to the cache. There will be others that
get you eventually even if you find and fix an exit problem. Backing up the
cache and restoring it to a new profile is a simple thing to do the next
time yours gets hosed.
Or you can buy one of the third party utilities that fix it all for you,
such as:
