I often compile lists. In particular, we give questionnaires to client
employees who generally fill them out electronically and often use bullet
points in their answer. I then create a composite listing that combines all
the lists returned. I want my list to also be bulleted (or numbered). When
I copy and paste from different people's lists into my own list, it somehow
seems to confuse Word, making it impossible to obtain consists margins, etc.
Often, the left margin or, more likely, the indent between the number/bullet
and the beginning of the text is out of whack. Often, the actual appearance
bears no resemblence to the settings on the ruler bar at the top of the
window. Further, when selecting correct and incorrect paragraphs, and going
to Format paragraph, the settings, item by item, are identical.
In the most recent case, I could convert everything from numbered paragraphs
to bullets and obtain a consistent appearance. But when I then tried to
migrate to numbers, thinking all settings were cleaned up, the same
misalignment reappeared.
I am not a novice, I have the advanced version of Microsoft certifications
for the Office Suite of Products. I just got the most recent version of Word
(actually of Office) and was sure the problem would be fixed by now. But, of
course, it is still there.
