Fixed Daily Rates

Hi

We are curerntly using the EPM solution with MS Project 2003 and Project
Server 2003. We have our project plans in this. Some of our contractor
resources are on a fixed daily rate, regardless of how long they work. Our
defualt working hours is 8hrs. For budgetting purposes, we ensure our
reosurces are levelled but when recording actuals, if a contractor puts in
10hrs, then the result is that an actual cost of Contractor Rate x 10/8 is
given for the value of this work. We don't want our contractors to have to
record an overtime figure for the extra 2 hours and our company policy is to
record actual hours (i.e. recording 8 hrs when you work 10 is not an option).
Any help which people can supply would be appreciated.

I believe you are "painting yourself into a corner" with all of your
requirements. Here's the approach I would use to address your problem:

1. In the Enterprise Resource Pool, enter the Standard Rate for each
contractor resource and set the Overtime Rate to $0.00/hr.
2. When a contractor works more than 8 hours in a day, he/she should enter
8 hours in the Actual Work field and the additional hours in the Actual
Overtime Work field
3. When a contractor works more than 8 hours in a day, he/she should NEVER
enter all the hours in the Actual Work field (make this a training and
performance issue with them and hold them accountable for their performance)

Using the above procedure, the contractor will never bill more than 8 hours
of work in a day and will also record all hours worked, in compliance with
your time reporting methodologies. Hope this helps.
