fixed paragraph prefix

Michael Bierman

In Word 2003 I am sure that I used to be able to create a paragraph
that automatically had a text string prefix such as

"Note: "

which was handy for Notes, Warnings, etc. for a variety of documents.
I can't figure out how to do this in 2007. If I don't include a number
in the custom numbering, the dialog won't let me continue. Am I
remembering incorrectly? Was this ever possible? More importantly, is
it possible in Word 2007?

Cheers,

The only way to do this is with *outline* numbering. This also applies to
Word 2007.

Thank you for the clarification. I apparently remembered incorrectly; I
thought the ability to use a numbered style to add text was removed in Word
2003.

Yes, Word 2003 did permit this for simple lists, and Word 2007 requires a
multilevel list for this. See
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/QandA2007.htm and compare to
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/QandA.htm (Word 2003 and earlier).

I must have been using Word 2003 more when you wrote the article, then. :)

Well, you were certainly more knowledgeable about Word 2007 at the time than
I was (and still are, I'm sure).
