Fixed shared border

F

Francisco

Howdy to all,

Searched the DG for a solution to my problem and only found a question
similar to mine but not an answer

I would like try to keep my (top) shared border from moving with the rest of
the
page (ideally without adding a frame). I have a shared borders on the page
and they move when scrolling the rest of the page down. I'm trying just to
fix the top border in place. I have a fixed (watermark) background and FP
2003. If it is not possible to lock-down the top border, is it possible to
add my top banner to the background image without it repeating many times?

Saludos!

It can't be done, since the shared border is part of the page you've applied
it to.

You can use a frameset to top the top/left/right (or whichever) site of the
page you don't want moving with the rest of the page. Framesets are
troublesome though, and best avoided if you're not sure of what you're
doing.

We can send men to the moon and robots to Mars but not get a banner to stand
still. Humm!

Ok, thanks for your feedback.

Just wanted to ask about the idea of placing it as a background watermark.
The problem that I see with that idea is that the watermark feature
multiplies the image to fit the web page. Is there a way to define/limit the
size of the image presented. Its a long shot but I have to ask.

As to frames, I have to admit that I don't know much about them, except that
everyone writes that they shouldn't be used. What is it about frames that
makes them difficult? I understand that 'older' browser versions can't deal
with them, but what if I want to assume that most people that I am targetting
have reasonably updated versions of their browsers. What is the key to
managing frames? Do you know of a good on-line reference document that can
help me understand frames? I would like to give a shot at using them to
perhaps solve my problem and in the interim learn something new.

Thanks in advance.

All the best!

Frames: It is not a browser issue, as IE3 and NS2 and up supports frames.

Thanks, Thomas. That confirms what I generally understood.

So, please tell me...where is the limitation/problem/aggravation with frames?

But don't get carried away by this. If you want one part of your design to
be nailed to the screen while another part scrolls, there's nothing better.

IMHO, you just need to be aware of the issues surounding frames, not write
them off entirely. One of the problems is that search engines can't find
your pages if they're coming up in frames. All they can see is the frames
page. You may be able to address that with a <meta keywords= statement,
but it takes some work.

However using frames, your users can not bookmark specific pages easily, etc.
