fixed tables with editable cell placeholders

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I'm trying to create master tables where in the layout, the text in the cells are editable but nothing else is.

When I try Insert > Layout Placeholders > Table and create a table, I don't get any controls to define the number of rows, columns, etc.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I can understand the need, but that's not how tables and placeholders
work in PPT.

The only thing I can think of offhand is to put a table, not a table
placeholder, on the master. Format it and size it to taste. Then on a
sample slide the user can copy as needed, add a bunch of text frames
that overlay the table on the master; that gives the user something to
edit w/o being able to add new rows/columns to the underlying table.

And yeah, I agree ... Spectacularly inadequate.

Basically, PowerPoint is all about letting users do what they feel they
need to and not making them do what we know is GOOD for them. ;-)

Thanks for your input, Steve. It's hard to understand the logic behind some of the functionality. Thanks again! Josh
