Fixing links from other plans

I have pasted as a link several tasks from other peoples project plans into
mine as they relate to my team. However some of the links are not working
anymore but they only report as \\source project plan.mmp!LINK_11 (for
example) when I go to [Edit][Links] on my plan to fix them. I can't work out
how to determine which one is broken from this information. It doesn't refer
to the line number of the source plan. Any ideas?

Phil,
Yeah, ain't that a bummer?

The biggest problem with Paste Links is that they are very fragile and
easily broken or corrupted (as is your case). For example, if the user
of a linked file moves that file to another location, the link will get
"lost". Furthermore, if a link gets broken a fragment of that link may
still exist in either the source or destination file (depending on how
it was broken) and that can lead to corruption.

A more robust approach is to use external predecessor/successor type
links with the other files. Check the Project help file to find out how
to set them up.

Another approach that may work for you is to set up a master file with
inserted subprojects (Insert/Project). With this approach however you
will get ALL the tasks in each of the other projects but filters can be
used to view selected tasks.

Hope this helps.
