I was trying to find info oh how to fix office 2003 once you uninstall
office 2007 Beta!

Ok I had downloaded the office 2007Beta (nov) and I can't figure out
how to get office 2003 to work again, along with Visio 2003, Publisher
2003 Onenote 2003, project 2003, Outlook 2003 bis. I just can't
afford to buy 2007 list of products. I actually own these products
not sure I can find the CDs. Anybody have a solution

YOu need to find the CDs and reinstall. If you did not uninstall when running the beta, then open any of the Office programs and run Detect and Repair from the Help menu.

I'm having the same problem. The 07 beta stopped today. At first I could
not get to 03 Outlook- now nothing 03 opens. I tried to uninstall 07, then
reinstall 03. And again, and again. Getting "patch" messages and a variety
of others. Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling Windows XP and
starting over? If so, do I lose all my files?

Hi Star,

You may need to use the utility in this MS article for fixing Office 2003.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295823/en-us?FR=1

If you reformat your drive without backing up then yes, you could lose your files :( Using the MS Installer cleanup utility from
that article you should be okay, but it's a good idea to always back up your files first when doing any install/update/removal of
software on your PC.

Thanks however, still no fruite for me.

I guess I made a bad assumption that installing 2007 beta would have
no effects to 2003 products. Clearly this is and extreamly costly
error on my part. What was I thinking when I installed a beta version
on my everyday home pc. I have other desktops just sitting around
collecting dust. This hurts and I feel Like crying. Boy when it
comes to microsoft this year I have been killed. My Xbox360 broke and
I couldn't figure out how to get the disk out and voided the
warrenty. Then this and now I have to spend this weekend
reinstalling/backing everything up. Thanks for telling me the truth
that the only solution is to rebuild my system.

Cheers,
Bill Tomb
Had fun with publisher 2007 only wish it had a button that would
automatically lower picture quality so pages run faster.

I guess I liked office 2007 an it was a beta so I just need to suck it
up!

Not exactly the same problem...

1st: removed beta version, had several error, had to go in registries to
update/add permissions, finaly, I was able to remove it

2nd: re install Office 2003, no error.... when trying to open outlook 2003,
I get an error that the mapi32.dll file is corrupt or the wrong version.
Tried to remove and re - install, tried to remove, use the office cleaner, re
installed, still not working, I tried renaming the files mapi32.dll to
mapi.32.dll.bak and re install office after that, still no go.

If I don't find a solution, i'll have to format and re install everything
.... not very happy with Microsoft today ......

Well its almost the same problem, see I was going to try to fix my
problem after I found the CDs. However, after learning that you had
so many problems(ie your on next step) and Microsoft does not have a
working solution to fix it. I must just break down and reinstall/
reformat. I have had this XP build running for 2.4 years thats pretty
good. So I guess its time.

"Not exactly the same problem..." Well your on step three and I am on
step one.

Cheers
Bill

Do NOT touch the mapi32.dll. Rename the MSMAPI32.dll to .old and then open Outlook - it will run a detect and repair and you should be good to go.

Ha thanks for trying to help,

Tried that, still didn't work. Clearly Microsoft does not understand
this issue and they don't have a fix. All I did is follow their
directions telling me to uninstall the application. Its clearly
Microsofts problem and they should have a gui application that fixes
it. Or maybe some guy with and MBA figured he could get people to buy
Vista because office 2007(beta) screws up everything when you remove
it as stated by the directions.

Cheers,
Bill

followed those steps, checked the mapi32.dll.old and didn't need to rename
them since they were already replaced, then looked for that msmapi32.dll,
renamed it started outlook, it repaired and I was able to open Outlook after
that, thanks for that information .... saved me a format..... lol

I am VERY glad I read this post before installing the Office 2007 trial over
my Office 2003 in Vista. Clearly the 2007 trial makes reverting to 2003
difficult if not impossible and should not be attempted on ones production or
"main" machine.

"A Healing has Occurred!"

Had the same problem, when Office 2007 Trial expired and I removed it ,
Office 2003 went with it.

Installer wanted CD's and I fooled around for a day with registy
entries etc.

Then I did a System Restore from a few days before the 2007 removal and
....

All is right with the world. Everything seems to be right back to
MSOffice 2003 with no probs.

1.Remove 2007
2.Restore point before removal.
3. Report back.
