Fixing scan errors

When I scan a document and save to Microsoft Word 2000, the text becomes
different than the original. Example: In one information box the original
reads, "2. Grade(s) applying for:" but in the scanned document a line from
the form breaks appart the word "applying". When I try to print, Microsoft
Word also says the margins don't fit the paper. Why isn't the original just
photocopied?

The scanning you are talking about isn't simply photocopying - taking a
picture of the document - but OCR - optical character recognition. This
analyzes the pictures to look for letters, spaces and formatting. It is
imperfect.
