It's a mystery to me. One day last week, my Outlook on this machine
connected fine to my POP3 account. The next day when I tried to connect, I
get an error message stating "the TCP/IP was unexpectedly terminated by the
server, yada yada, Error Number: 0x800ccc0f."
To verify that the account was still good on the mail server side of things,
I tried to access the account on another machine: no problem connecting and
downloading new emails once the account info was entered on the other
computer. I deleted the account info on this problem machine and
re-entered, but the same error message occurs. At this point, I added the
POP3 to Outlook Express on this computer; I was only mildly surprised that
it too didn't work, reporting instead to OE equivalent of the same error
message. So it now appears this might be a Windows XP issue.
So at this point, I need advice on how to make XP/Outlook/OE behave like
they should again. The machine is on a P2P network, and can access the
internet and the LAN; it just can no longer establish any sort of connection
with our IP's POP3 server. The computer is running XP Pro SP1, updated for
all available security patches.
Any ideas on how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated.
