Flagging .vcs or .cs files as read

If someone sends me a calendar event as an .ics or .vcs file I can open it
and the event appears on my calendar just fine. But, it shows up as unread -
in my folder list view the Calendar shows up in bold with 1 unread message.
I can open the appointment in my calendar to flag it as read. I'd rather set
a default somewhere so appointment entered by opening .ics and.vcs files are
always flagged as read. Can I?
