Flash in Mac

Can I embed flash objects (.swf) in Office 2008 products - specifically Word.
I know I can in the Windows versions using the control toolbox.
When I look at insert --> object, there is no flash object available?

Thanks

The Control Toolbox in Win Word consists primarily of ActiveX Controls which
are not supported in the Mac OS. Even if you can embed the Flash object it
won't play. Even if you can, whether it will play through a browser if saved
as an HTML file I'm not sure... I don't use Word for any animated or
web-related purposes.

Mac Office uses QuickTime to render the movies. When flash movies are not
playing with QuickTime they cannot be embedded to Mac Word. Please convert
the file to other movie file format such as WMV. Movie file can be inserted
via Word menu Insert -> Movie...

keiko,

The only way Mac can use WMV/wma Files is by use of a Plugin from a
company called Flip4Mac which acts as a go between for WMA/WMV files to
quicktime. However, Ant WMV/WMA files that are encoded using Microsoft's
Digital Rights Management soft or DRM Plugin absolutely refuses to
license the Plugin. MicroSoft killed any and all support for WMA/WMV on
the Mac Platform Several years ago. Windows media player for Mac has nor
been updated in at least 2-3 years.

I have WMA/WMV items on my computer now That stammer and stutter because
of the DRM issue.

If the WMV/WMA files are not rights protected then Flip4 Mac and
quicktime will play them otherwise they won't.

Not necessarily. ;-)

MS is so big that the left hand often doesn't know what the right hand
is doing. ;-)

Eben amongst the MacBU crowd I doubt seriously they know about it, as
its related to internet support . nothing to do with MacBU.

If he knew about it he would not have brought it up because its useless
information on a Mac. :-(

Hi,

I answered a similar question in the PowerPoint newsgroup a while ago. I
don't expect a quick resolution of this problem. Please excuse my
repeating this information here:

It would appear that most of this problem is caused by Adobe, not Apple.
Here's an Adobe article about Flash and QuickTime:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_18990&sliceId=1

On the other hand, Apple seems to get antsy about QuickTime codecs:
http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/05/01/2012217

That could because of security concerns:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307176

The situation makes it difficult for Microsoft (or anyone else for that
matter) to effectively work with Adobe Flash.

My impression after going through this research is that Adobe Flash is
not a very good platform to use to distribute content, and that the ball
is in Adobe's court to correct the situation.
