flashing title bar in word xp

If I try to open a file within Word XP, the title bar
starts to flash and only ctrl-alt-delete & the close boxes
will shut word down. The only way I can open a file within
My Docs is to enter via Explorer.
I'm running Win 98 & have erased Norton plugins from the C
drive.

Any clues?

Hi David,

The problem is caused by one of two issues:

If you are using Norton then try disabling the "Office Plug-in" option
since it is known to cause dialog boxes to appear behind the
application window.
In Norton go to "Options" and then select "Miscellaneous" and disable
the Office Plug-in option.

If you are starting Word using the Quick Launch bar then this is a
known bug and it has been corrected in the Office XP SP2 patch. Here
