FLOATING MENUS

N

nonsequito

Word uses floating menus (formatting palette, toolbox, etc).

They always seem to end up in front of the document when I open
another window in word, or in another program.

I like these menus, but spend a lot of time moving them out of the way
of the main document window.

Would be nice if they floated away from the main doc window when it
approached them. Just as a picture can be made to push text out of the
way.

Hi,

I like your suggestion, too!

Here's the link to use to submit suggestions to Microsoft Office's

Just because I'm in a cantankerous mood:)....

How is the program supposed to know *where* you want them moved to? And what
if it puts them in an even more inconvenient position... Not to mention that
Word is notorious for toolbars getting moved off-screen as it is. Can you
imagine what it would be like if the bars were actually designed to bounce
around like water droplets on a hot griddle?

I for one prefer *not* having my toolbars jumping all over the screen - I
would far rather have them stay _put_ so I know exactly where they are when
I need them. If *I* do something - such as opening another doc or moving the
active window - I'm willing to accept responsibility for adjusting the
position of my toolbars accordingly.

Of course, much of this discussion is moot for those who don't heavily rely
on toolbars or for those who dock the bars on one side of the screen or
another to keep them from covering the doc window in the first place:)

I agree, and I have an add-in that makes sure that when I open a
document, it's automatically positioned and sized so that it's not under
my toolbars...
