floating tables

Is it possible to create a floating table, so that if a
table is at the bottom of a page, when text is typed in
the space above it, the text jumps down to the next page,
and the table doesn't move?

In Word 2000 and above you can "wrap" a table. In earlier versions you would
need to put it in a frame, and in fact this is also recommended for later
versions, for reasons explained in
