I agree with JoAnn, Word is not a great program for creating drawings.
Visio would be best, PowerPoint works as does Publisher which are page
layout programs (even though most don't consider PPT to be a page layout
program. I have successfully used it for many posters and print items just
like PageMaker, Publisher and Quark for local print jobs.)
However, to keep the lines in one place you need left click on one line.
Press and hold the Shift key while you left click on all other lines in the
drawing. This selects all objects on the screen. Once all the items are
selected, RIGHT click exactly on any of the lines (you should see the 4
headed arrow before the right click otherwise it will deselect all items).
Select Format AutoShape from the menu that appears. Then select the
Advanced button. In the advanced button window click on Picture Position
tab. Remove the check box on Move object with text. Add a check to the Lock
anchor and then click on Text Wrapping tab. In that window, make sure that
In front of text is selected.
Now to make that the default for all future lines you draw, Right click on
one of the lines you changed the style of then click on Set AutoShape
defaults. All new lines will have the default you just created.
If you added text frames to your drawing, you will need to do the same to
them since they are also normally tied to Word's lines and will move. Once
you set the AutoShape defaults above, any new text boxes will also take on
the freely moveable but fixed location.
Hope this helps, let us know.

When I do a detailed floor plan, the lines that have been added earlier
keep
moving out of position. After the drawing has been saved and I open it
again, most of the drawing has shifted all over the page and it is very
tediuos putting everything back to it's original position. Any help
