floppy comes on when opening excel

When one of our users opens Excel XP, the floppy drive comes on even when
there is no disk in the floppy drive. This only happens with excel and no
other office product. Has anyone experienced this before?? My boss wants
me to change out the floppy drive, but I don't think there is anything
physically wrong with the drive.

This is off the "top of my head" and may not be the solution, but I'd check
"Tools->Options->General" for reference to the A: drive in the "Default File location"
and/or "Alternate Startup file location"
