Flowchart and Connectors

In Word 2003 SP2, why when I draw a Flowchart inside a Drawing Canvas the
blue connector points on the shape appear and automatically connect to the
shape when I hover above them with a connector and when I try it outside the
Drawing Canvas the points do not turn blue and the connectors do not
automatically connect? Is it possible to work outside a Drawing Canvas and
have the connectors turn blue and automatically connect when I hover?

No, Word's AutoShapes don't work like that. When you insert a drawing
canvas you are using Microsoft Draw and that gives the connecting facility
which is not available in Microsoft Word.
