Prior to Word 2007 the connectors are only active within a MS Word Draw/Drawing Canvas (Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing. You can also
work in Powerpoint, where they're always active then copy the finished graphic and paste it into Word.

I'm using Word 2003 to make a flowchart, but I can't get the connectors to show-up (they are all grayed-out). What am I missing?>>

You're seemingly to imply that the connectors can be active even outside the
drawing canvas in Word 2007. However, I can't get the connectors to work
outside the drawing canvas in Word 2007. Can you tell me how I can get the
connectors to work outside the drawing canvas in Word 2007, if possible?
Prior to 2007 the Connector tools are not even selectable unless working in
a canvas. In 2007 you can select & draw with the tools when working outside
a canvas but they don't actually *connect* to anything unless they're used
inside of one. I presume the philosophy employed is closely akin to "Half a
loaf is better than none."
