flowchart connectors disabled

I have MS Office 2002 XP Professional. I would like to add a flowchart with
connectors to a MS Word document, but the connectors are greyed out and can't
be selected. I've looked on the installation CD, but I don't see which new
component to install (if that's the right thing to do). I don't see an item
that says or implies "flowcharts", or "connectors".

In order to use the connectors, you have to use the drawing canvas: Insert |
Picture | New Drawing.

Thanks. I was really trying to make a probability tree diagram, but couldn't
find info on that. I did find info on flowcaharts, so followed instructions
about the autoshapes ok, I thought, The connectors were grey though, Your
instructions worked wheen I satrted all over again and put the autoshapes
inside the drawing canvas.
