Focus always at top of window

Okay, I don't know how to summarize this problem with a good subject line...
Here is my problem:
I'm using Outlook 2007 with Windows XP (fully patched, etc.)
I have filters that move incoming messages to certain folders. When I select
another folder, highlighted message is at the top of the message list, on the
oldest item in the folder (I sort all folders with most recent at the
bottom). I have to press the end key to get to the bottom. When I click back
to my inbox, the same thing happens. This didn't do this with previous
versions of Outlook.

Can anyone shed light on why this does this? Is this by design or do I have
a setting wrong? Thanks

I've been sorting my mail with the most recent at the bottom for years. I've
tried it with most recent at top and can't get used to it.

Tried resetting your view for those folders already or even the default
"Messages" view completely?

Is the selected message active (the selection is blue) or inactive (the
selection is gray)? If the latter, do you have Outlook Today chosen as your
startup folder?
