Hi All,
I'm using Outlook 2003 and Exchange 5.5. (I know, exchange 5.5 is
scary...)
I've set up some rules and exported them, in hopes that I can
distribute the rules to my team. It's about 20 rules, and by exporting
and distributing them, I hope to save my team a lot of time.
The rules are simple - they check messages after they arrive to see if
they were sent to a distibution list, and organize them into folders.
The problem is: the rules don't work when I import them. After I
exported my rules, I walked through the steps that one of my team
members would have to go through to import the rules and get them
running.
First, I had to start with a clean slate - so I deleted the rules I
currently had in Outlook, and deleted all the folders I set up as well.
Next I recreated the folder structure, and when that was done, I
imported the rules.
After importing the rules, the rules window shows a list of rules as it
should. All of my rules seem to have been successfully imported. When I
click the OK button, I get an error: "Some of your rules do not have
all their options set. If you save your rules, these rules with missing
options will be deactivated. Do you want to save your rules?"
When I click the 'No' button on this error screen, I see the main rules
window again, but now, none of the rules have a folder specified for
them anymore.
Through some trial and error I also learned that if I keep the original
folders that I used to initially set up the rules, the imported rules
work fine. However, if I create new folders, as the members of my team
will have to do, the imported rules don't work. It seems Outlook
folders may have a unique identifier, instead of just using the name of
the folder.
Has anyone come across this, and does anyone have any advice?
Thanks,
~jeff
