Folders Location Messed Up

L

Lady Dungeness

I'm setting up Outlook XP. I read the help files and some internet pages
and decided to move the Outlook folder to a more convenient location.
Unfortunately, my plan failed.

How do I get the folder back where it belongs? And return the settings so
they point to that folder?

I also copied my *.pst files from a different computer and put them inside
the Outlook folder. My messages and account settings are okay, but none of
my forms or toolbar customizations carried over. Oh well.

When I get the Outlook folder back where XP Home & Office XP put it, will my
previous *.pst files still be intact?

Sorry for messing it up.

What type of email acct do you have? where did you move the files to? Note
that only the pst can be moved - other files outlook uses will remain in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook or
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

Hi Diane,

Here's what my not-so-brilliant mind made me to do the files and folder
structure:

TOPIC: RECREATING THE APPROPRIATE FOLDER STRUCTURE

In Documents & Settings I do not have any Folders named Outlook. I have
the following relevant path: C:>Documents and Settings > MY NAME > Local
Settings >Application Data > Microsoft >

I have moved my Outlook files to C: \ Documents \ AH Outlook \

Subfolders:

\ ARCHIVES [empty]

\ My Calendars [empty, even though I have made calendar entriies]

\ My Contacts [empty, even though I have entered a couple of contacts]

\ My News

\ My Outlook \ My Mail

The MY NEWS folder has all the *.DBX files for Microsoft News, plus a file
named Pop3uidl.dbx

The MY MAIL folder has these files:

.. . . My Personal.pst

.. . . extend.dat

.. . . imap.school

.. . . edu.pst

.. . . imap.school.edu-00000001.pst

.. . . imap.school.edu-00000001.pst.old

.. . . Outlook.FAV

.. . . Outlook.NK2

.. . . Outlook.srs

QUESTION: Can you tell me what folders to create in the D&S directory? And
what files to move back there? Thank you. Lady D

FWIW, outlook does not use separate folders for calendar contacts etc. Add
a folder names Outlook under the my docs & settings path, under microsoft.
(although I'd think outlook would create it if needed). Point your profile
to the pst - this can be in any folder. Outlook will create the files it
needs, where it needs them. or copy everything back and check the file dates
in a few days - delete the ones it doesn't use.

OE supports moving the news files, so that is ok.

See http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.asp for file information and
locations. Toolbar customizations are in outcmd.dat - forms are in the
Forms folder under the Microsoft path in my docs and settings. These two
can't be relocated.

Thank you, Diane. I think I've got it fixed. But my settings aren't
working. I made three Profiles -- School / Personal / Business. Each has
its own email address. The email for School is imap -- and I can't get it
to download. I want all three profiles to use the same calendar. Is this
possible?

I appreciate your help; I have a year to learn Outlook before I start my
business.

I answered this in a separate message but will repeat it for the benefit of
others facing the same problems.

You have two choices for sharing 1 calendar - use one pst and add it to each
acct's profile or create one profile with all 3 accts. use rules to sort
POP3 mail to other folders. IMAP will always have its own set of folders for
mail.

as for it not downloading IMAP, its usually a configuration or
authentication issue. Do you get any errors when you try?
