Follow Up Flag in Outlook Office 2003

When I flag an email for follow up and put a date for followup shouldn't that
pop up with my reminders? Is there some property I must check to make this
happen/

After you set the follow-up flag, where do you keep the item? Only items in
the default folders will 'pop-up.'
